What is the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation

Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation was formed by Kim Jones, after her son Jordan was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Testicular Cancer.  The foundation was formed in October of 2009 with the mission of educating young men on the importance of early detection, and supporting those who are affected by this disease.  Testicular cancer is the leading cancer in men 15-35, yet it’s hardly talked about.  When found early, it has a survival rate of over 95%.  Early detection is as simple as a monthly testicular self-exam.

Jordan Jones was diagnosed at early age 13 with stage 4 testicular cancer.  Doctors told his parents that he was inoperable.  Thankfully, they never took “no” for an answer, and found a team of surgeons that spent 12 hours removing over six pounds of tumors from his abdomen, wrapping around his kidneys and aorta, ultimately saving his life.  Jordan recently celebrated his 19th birthday and attends Colorado Mesa University perusing an engineering degree.  Many stories with late stage diagnosis do not end this well.

Since the foundation was formed, the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation has reached millions of people with our message.   Social media plays a large role in making it possible to educate and support others.  We ran ads in New York Times Square for the week of July fourth on ABC and MTV screen reaching millions for that week alone.  We have also helped many families going through the treatment of testicular cancer with grants for immediate financial needs.  Our educators are going into schools and getting information into medical offices across the nation.

2013 has the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation ramping up for our first ever Tee Off for Testicular Cancer National Golf Series.  We will have five tournaments in cities across the United States.  The kick off will be in Grand Junction, Colorado with the other tournaments following in Dallas (TX), New Orleans (LA), Phoenix (AZ) and Mesquite (NV).  We are honored to have two PGA Professionals, both Testicular Cancer survivors, who support our overall mission.  They will each make appearances during this national Golf Series, including the kick off tournament in Western Colorado.  Rick Woodson (Current PGA Class A Member, former Web.com Tour Member, Canadian Tour Member) along with Todd Barranger (Former PGA Tour Member, winner on the Web.com Tour). For more information on this golf series, visit our website at www.tcafgolf.org.
