The History of LUNGevity

LUNGevity Foundation was formed over 10 yrs ago by 7 Chicago-area lung cancer survivors.  It was their vision and passion for finding a cure that resulted in LUNGevity’s phenomenal growth. From a small Chicago-born organization to the nation’s fastest growing charity in less than ten years, these very special people left an indelible legacy.

In June of 2010, LUNGevity merged with Protect Your Lungs.  Patricia A. Stern, the inspiration behind Protect Your Lungs, died in March 2008 after being diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Despite Pat’s vigilance with her annual physicals and chest x-rays, the disease developed undetected until it was too late to treat. Pat’s family decided to do something about this and prevent it from happening to other families.

The Foundation Today

How YOU Can Help LUNGevity

  • You can help LUNGevity by visiting our website and learning more about lung cancer, talking about lung cancer and educating others about lung cancer.
  • Dispel the stigma that lung cancer is simply a smoker’s disease.  It’s not. 60% of those diagnosed are never smokers or ex smokers who quit decades ago.  Let people know that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.
  • Check to see if there is an event in your area and become a sponsor or participate in the event to raise funds for lung cancer research.
  • Suggest LUNGevity as a resource to anyone you know in the cancer community or to anyone who has been affected by lung cancer
  • Become a partner with us in the fight against lung cancer!
