San Diego, CA mAss Kickers Foundation (MKF) is sponsoring three Asian American tumor/cancer survivors on an “education mission” to Singapore from November 8 to November 13.  These three survivors will be speaking to cancer survivors from Singapore about a proactive lifestyle after treatment, AKA “tumor thrivership”.  Last year, MKF spoke at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and at Ateneo De Manila in the Philippines spreading the message of hope.  They also had the opportunity to meet with Japanese cancer survivors in Tokyo.  In 2014, MKF will be presenting at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore, Centre for Translational Medicine, NUS on November 12.

mAss Kickers Foundation Executive Director, Eric Galvez says “We firmly believe that the global stigma of a tumor/cancer diagnosis as a death sentence needs to be addressed and that tumor/cancer thrivers can be both a symbol and voice of hope in dispelling the myth that cancer is a death sentence. This is an excellent opportunity for survivors to share their stories of ‘post treatment thrivership’ with survivors who are ashamed of their situation.”

Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor Marjeri Smith believes “a positive outlook and hope is as important as the cancer treatment itself. Without that, you’re pretty much accepting failure from the beginning. I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to spread hope to those in need and show them that their life is worth fighting for.”

Thyroid cancer survivor, Ashley Piaskowski adds, “Receiving a cancer diagnosis is not just disappointing, it’s overwhelming. So many things about your life are challenged. When my husband was diagnosed with cancer, we were overwhelmed. When I was diagnosed just five months later, we were floored. It’s been eight years since our diagnosis and we are doing better than projected. Cancer has actually provided us with some great opportunities and made us grateful for each day.”

The sole purpose of mAss Kickers is to change perceptions about tumor / cancer diagnoses throughout the world by traveling with Thrivers.  For more information about the trip and to support this endeavor with a donation, please visit:
