Matthew Zachary is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of I’m Too Young For This,  (now Stupid Cancera ground breaking nonprofit organization designed to provide support for the young adult cancer survivor community. He is an award winning concert pianist, actor, Google health advisor, talk radio host, and all around “swell” guy. His diverse endeavors into different avenues of social media make him the “Jay-Z of young adult survivors”.  He has agreed to be the first featured mAssKicker and answer a few questions we had for him.

mK: What and when was your diagnosis?
MZ: December 27th, 1995. Medulloblastoma (brain cancer)

mK: Who are your heroes… who do you look up to?
MZ: Other young adult survivors. And Billy Joel.

mK: What motivates you?
MZ: Other young adult survivors. And Billy Joel.

mK: When was the first time you felt like yourself?
MZ: I don’t think there’s an answer. Life is a continuous and ever-evolving journey of personal connection, experience, challenge, growth and adaptation. You should always feel like yourself. As a survivor, I am reminded of my medical history each and every day. Cancer, the gift that keeps on giving, is a constant barometer for what is important in life not just because it’s what I do for a living but because it is a part of who I am as an individual. So, I’ve never felt not like myself. I may have just been unhappy with the circumstances under which I was myself.

mK: What makes you laugh, cry, angry?
MZ: Ignorance, disrespect and deception make me angry.
Other people’s suffering, pain and discomfort make me cry.
My wife makes me laugh.

mK: If you were a television character who would you be and why?
MZ: Hands down, Michael Knight. Or Data.

mK:  OK, Matthew why “the Hoff” or the robot?

MZ: The “Hoff” because I’m huge in Germany (kidding). It’s all about the talking car. And Data because he lives his existence in eternal curiosity about humanity, purpose and personal growth.

mK: What are you doing now?
MZ: Answering these questions.

mK: Touché smart alec! Any advice for people that get daunting diagnoses?
MZ: Stick it to the man every single chance you have. Always disrupt and challenge the status quo. No one is right but you. Own your choices, Own your life. Be the best you can be every step of the way and get busy living.

mK: Tell us something people probably didn’t know… anything
MZ: I was expelled from nursery school for biting the teacher and the principal.

mK: Any parting words for all the mAss Kickers?

MZ: Where were you 12 years ago? (In diapers, I know.)

mK: Thanks “Matt-Z”. Check ouhttp://imtooyoungforthis.org (now Stupid Cancer) to support i[2]y
